Our Story

Six Decades of
Shading Colorado

Gilsdorf Canvas & Awning has been a Fort Collins staple since 1960. What started as a small family operation has grown into the region's most trusted name in custom canvas and awning solutions — without ever losing the personal touch that defines our work.

We measure every window, assess every sun angle, and discuss every fabric option with the same care we'd give our own homes. Our clients aren't transactions — they're neighbors. And that's why so many have been coming back for generations.

From a simple window awning to a full commercial canopy system, we bring old-world craftsmanship to every stitch. No shortcuts. No mass production. Just honest, durable work that looks good and lasts.

"We've had Gilsdorf canvas on our home for over 20 years. When the storm took out our old awning, we didn't call anyone else. They measured, designed, and installed a better one in days."

Why Gilsdorf

The Difference
Is in the Details

There are plenty of places to buy an awning. There aren't many that do it the way we do. Here's what sets us apart.

Made Here, Made Right

Every piece is cut, sewn, and finished in our Fort Collins shop. No offshore factories, no cut corners — just skilled hands doing honest work.

Colorado-Tested Fabrics

We select materials that handle intense sun, sudden hail, and everything in between. Your awning isn't just pretty — it's built for this climate.

Personal Service

You'll talk to the people who actually make your product. No call centers, no scripts. Just straightforward advice from folks who know their craft.

Full-Service Shop
